It is so obviously one of the most heinous violations of trust that can happen between an adult and a child -- when the protector becomes predator.

There isn't an adult out there that at some level of awareness doesn't know participating as a consumer of child porn, right on through to actual child molestation, is the polar opposite of what's right in any adult/child relationship.

They all know that creating demand creates supply. Increase the number of consumers, increase the number of children being victimized and exploited to meet demand.

You know that molesters and abusers know their behaviour is wrong, because they don't talk about it at the coffee shop or at the rink while watching their own children play hockey or ringette.

When was the last time somebody turned to you in a public situation and said ... unafraid of being overheard, "Man, I found a great child porn site last night. You wouldn't believe how explicit it is!"

Or some proud mom or dad boasting publicly, "I terrify that kid of mine, beat the crap out of him every night. He does what I tell him or else."

Then there are those who keep it a secret because they believe society is wrong; their "extreme discipline" or unorthodox sexual behaviour OK, just not in line with mainstream sentiments, so why subject yourself to the judgment of people whose views you don't respect?

Maybe, just for a change, rather than rant about the status quo, I'll appeal to those involved in the above-described behaviours and challenge them to rethink their approach to life and especially children.

Well, I share your sentiments and your outrage with the victimization of all children. But some of these abusers can and will change, will some day look back and regret the pain they've caused.
