But outside court, a woman who said Carl Treleaven began sexually abusing her when she was a toddler exploded in angry profanity at the 3 1/2 -year sentence.

"How many others?" raged Cindy Roncin, Treleaven's younger sister. "Look at those babies he had on his (expletive) computer! They should have nailed his ass to the wall."

Provincial court Judge Shelagh Creagh called the case unprecedented both in terms of the volume of material Treleaven was involved in distributing and the horror of the images.

"I have no doubt that you have shown yourself to be a danger to society," she told the grey-haired, bespectacled 49-year-old who hung his head during most of the proceedings. "I am tempted to impose a higher sentence."

However, Crown prosecutor Steve Bilodeau, in a joint submission with the defence, argued that Treleaven deserved less jail time because of how he co-operated with investigators and how quickly he pleaded guilty.

At the time of his arrest, he had more than 20 gigabytes of child porn on his computer and more than 90 people were waiting to download material from chat rooms he helped run.

In the lineup were people from England, South America, Canada, Denmark, Australia and the U.S., according to the agreed statement of facts in the case.
