As the world's best-looking genius, I reckon that having 24 hours a day is redundant and obvious... Malaysia Boleng: Time bandi
The SI unit which measures time, currently specifies a second comprises the duration of 9,192,631,770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between two hyperfine levels of the ground state of caesium-133 atom. Whatever that means....
In astronomical terms, a solar day is a single rotation of a planet around the Sun. Meanwhile, an apparent sidereal day is a single rotation of a planet with respect to the distant stars. For Earth it is 23.934 solar hours or 24 sidereal hours.
Anyway, the time measurement unit is arbitrary, so why not stop the barbaric practice of 24-hour days and treat ourselves to the more ideal 48-hour days?
Therefore, everyone can have enough rest and sleep, pay the bills, settle taxes which otherwise would not be paid anyway, saving the country billions which otherwise would've been lost.
Finally, people can be with their families, pay attention to their spouses (if they want to) and be more present in their children's lives, thus creating happier, relaxed families as well as well-balanced children.
Those with plenty of free time and nothing to do could volunteer and help the needy; donate blood or feed the homeless – whatever it is that makes for a better society.
With more time in a day, people would be less rushed to get to or from work. Companies would have to arrange shifts to cover all 48 hours in a day, resulting in more job opportunities – again another side-benefit of the new system.
Currently, a person can only get a driver's licence at 17. But with double the time in a day while all the rest of the system remain the same, a person can only get a licence at 34 years old (according to the old 24-hour system).
Many more people will use the public transportation system or be forced to carpool to work, reducing single-occupant vehicles and ultimately condemning traffic jams into extinction.
Following this logic, only 36-year-olds (18-year-olds using the 48-hour system) are allowed to drink and smoke. This would lead to a healthier society and reduction in crime rates.
Furthermore, only 42-year-olds (21-year-olds in the 48-hour system) can vote, assigning politics to the demographics who, heck, really give a damn about it.
Finally, kids will now finish kindergarten at 12, primary school at 24, secondary school at 34 and graduate around 46 years old. This would ensure our graduates are of top-notch quality and resolve the shortage of skilled workers in our continuous effort to achieve Vision 2020.
