WASHINGTON -- A massive online child pornography sting that started in Edmonton has nabbed 27 suspects from four countries after police infiltrated an Internet chat room used to trade images and videos of molestations.

The charges, announced yesterday by U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, include possession, receipt, distribution and manufacture of photos and live-streaming video of adults sexually abusing children and infants.

Participants in the chat room called Kiddypics & Kiddyvids used minors to produce the porn and then made it available to others through the Internet, said Gonzales.

"This investigation is an example of how American law enforcement will work side by side with our international law partners to shut down these rings and protect young, vulnerable victims from the horrors of sexual abuse."

The case began when an Edmonton woman overheard two children talking and reported their conversation to police, said Det. Randy Wickens of the city's Internet Child Exploitation unit.

Treleaven, who told police he looked at violent child porn so he wouldn't hurt anybody and "to make the feelings go away" was a so-called administrator of the chat room and a key figure in the ring, Wickens said from Chicago.
